The Victor
In 1981, the city of Colorado Springs made it known they were accepting submissions of concept for a metal sculpture that would be centrally featured in the enormous glass lobby of the modern, new city administration building downtown. Paul submitted a full-scale paperboard model of his concept. He was selected over four other local artists and awarded the contract. The project would prove to be one of the brightest highlights in his life as a sculptor. The majestic bronze 'Victor' still soars in the building's atrium today. The photos that follow give us a glimpse into Paul's process and methods as he gave life to 'The Victor' in his Woodland Park shop, hammering, bending, welding and grinding pieces cut from huge, flat sheets of bronze, culminating with the proud moment The Victor was placed in position.
